Biography:

Dr. JiaNan Zhang is an Associate Professor at the College of Music and Dance, Henan Normal University, where he teaches saxophone and chamber music. He serves as Deputy Secretary-General of the China Saxophone Society and as a jury member for the China International Saxophone Competition. He is also a Council Member of the Western Returned Scholars Association and Deputy Secretary-General of its branch for scholars who studied in the former Soviet Union, as well as an endorsed artist for Henri Selmer Paris.

Dr. Zhang’s performing career has included work as a guest saxophonist with the China National Centre for the Performing Arts Orchestra and as a member of the Light Music Orchestra of the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine. His previous academic appointments include Dean of the School of Popular Music at Beijing Performing Arts College and Distinguished Faculty member at Nanjing Normal University. He earned a Ph.D. and master’s degrees in Music Performance and Musicology at institutions in Ukraine, studying with Ukrainian artist Iurii Yasylevych, founder of the Kyiv Saxophone Quartet, and Herman Makarenko, principal conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine. His publications address Chinese traditional wind-instrument culture, saxophone articulation, the integration of saxophone with traditional Chinese culture, and saxophone timbre. In 2023, he founded TriangleTrio, a saxophone chamber ensemble that has performed in more than 20 provinces and cities across China.

张佳男博士现任河南师范大学音乐舞蹈学院副教授，主要教授萨克斯管演奏与室内乐。他担任中国萨克斯学会副秘书长、中国国际萨克斯大赛评委，并任欧美同学会理事及其留苏分会副秘书长。同时，他也是法国 Henri Selmer Paris 赛尔玛公司的签约艺术家。

张佳男博士曾担任中国国家大剧院交响乐团客座萨克斯管演奏员，并曾任乌克兰国家交响乐团轻音乐团萨克斯管演奏家。他曾任北京演艺专修学院流行音乐学院院长，并受聘为南京师范大学特聘教师。他在乌克兰的高等院校取得音乐表演硕士、音乐学硕士及博士学位，师从乌克兰人民艺术家、基辅萨克斯管四重奏创始人 Iurii Yasylevych，以及乌克兰国家交响乐团首席指挥 Herman Makarenko。他的研究与发表成果涵盖中国传统吹奏乐器文化、萨克斯管吐音技巧、萨克斯管与中国传统文化的融合，以及萨克斯管音色控制。2023年，他创立萨克斯管室内乐团 TriangleTrio（三角三重奏），乐团演出足迹遍及中国20多个省市。
