Rousseau Mouthpieces took great pride in being a sponsor for the 2023 World Saxophone Congress, a prestigious event that brought together accomplished saxophone players from around the globe. Held in Gran Canaria, this gathering showcased a diverse festival program that highlighted the expressive capabilities of the saxophone across various genres.
The Congress provided a perfect platform for the commission and performance of new repertoire, featuring recital programs, clinics, and fostering communication among saxophonists. Attendees witnessed several new compositions for the saxophone, spanning a wide range of genres. This Congress consistently delivered outstanding performances, along with invaluable clinics and master classes conducted by leading performers and teachers in the field.
This year’s edition featured saxophonists from all over the world, including the United States, Canada, England, Germany, Japan, Italy, Spain, Slovenia, Thailand, Scotland, France and Croatia. Rousseau Artists like Javier Valerio with his quartet SONSAX, Kenneth Tse, Sofía Zumbado, Benjamin Cold, Kyle Hutchins, Yiqun Chen, David Nabb, and Caroline Taylor were among the featured performers.
A special highlight of the Congress was the SONSAX flash mob performance on Thursday evening, right in front of the Rousseau display. This captivating moment was certainly a highlight of the event!
The Rousseau exhibit booth was active throughout the week, where new and experienced saxophonists were offered mouthpiece setup advice and recommendations. On display was a diverse selection of Rousseau and JodyJazz mouthpieces, ligatures and accessories. Many participants were eager to try our Rousseau ER50 Custom and Classic Alto Saxophone mouthpieces, which were created in collaboration with world-renowned Rousseau Artists Kenneth Tse and Stephen Page. Several World Saxophone Congress attendees fell in love with the beautiful sound full of rich colors that the Rousseau ER50 mouthpieces offer.
Beyond the impressive musical performances, the Congress stood out for fostering a spirit of camaraderie. While the music and performances were remarkable, many attendees found equal significance in the opportunity to reconnect with old friends and make new ones. Colleagues openly shared their experiences and insights, contributing to the extraordinary atmosphere of this Congress.
From December 6th to 10th, 2023, the World Saxophone Congress resonated throughout the entire city, leaving a lasting impact on the world of saxophone music.
